MISSION:
The primary mission of the Community & Economic Development Department is to seek funding from Federal, State and Private sources to implement community and economic growth programs. Create and implement marketing programs that promote the area as an attractive location for business. Improve social conditions in the neighborhood by stimulating investment, enhancing the business environment and creating jobs for area residents.
The City of Pahokee seeks public comment on the Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives. The comment period is open from March 2, 2011 for a thirty-day period closing at the end of business on April 2, 2011. Comments should be addressed to the City Clerk at cityclerk@cityofpahokee.com
Rehabilitation and Neighborhood Preservation Program
The program is designed to assist low/moderate income homeowners in making the necessary housing repairs that:
Preserve and upgrade the existing housing stock and enhance the quality of neighborhoods.
Promote decent, safe and sanitary housing conditions, and eliminate blighted conditions.
Improve neighborhood cohesiveness and instill a sense of community pride within the residents.
Enhance the aesthetic appeal of lower income neighborhoods.
Maintain or increase property values, and stabilize or augment the tax base.
Search for possible other funding sources to assist families that do not qualify through the Palm Beach County’s Rehabilitation Program.
Encourage all City Departments to spread the word of services offered by Community Development; and keep watch for new funding sources.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant must be owner of record of the property.
Applicant must reside at the property.
Property must be located within the City limits.
Applicant’s property tax obligation must be current at time of approval.
Applicant must have insurance on property.
Income requirements including Household Size and all income which determines whether they are low/moderate income households.
Treasure Coast Planning Council
The City of Pahokee is partnering with the Treasure Coast Planning Council and working through FDEP to clean up the old Peehokee Plaza as a Brownsfield project.
Habitat For Humanity
The City of Pahokee has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build 2 single family holmes in the City.
Pahokee's Community Development Department has partnered with P.A.C.E (Protocol for Assessing Community Excellence) to develope a park / playground for the residents of East Lake Village.
