Flood Control is A Shared Responsibility

Rainy season begins June 1. Please see below for tips from David Davis with the South Florida Conservancy District.

Your neighborhood drainage system is not a garbage disposal — please don’t treat it like one. Encourage residents to take responsibility by keeping ditches, swales, drainage grates, and retention lakes clear of debris, trash, and other discarded material in and around inlets or pipes.

Discourage the disposal of lawn clippings, tree limbs, and other debris (wood, concrete blocks, Christmas trees, etc.) directly into swales, street drains, and drainage canals.

Keep drainage facilities clear of vegetation, trash, improperly and illegally discarded appliances, furniture, shopping carts, tires, cars, garbage bags, etc. Report the location and condition of any clogged or damaged facilities to the proper authority in ADVANCE of and DURING the summer rainy season.

WE ALL BENEFIT when flood protection is maximized and the community works together.

For questions about flood control and storm water runoff, feel free to call the East Beach Water Control District at 561-996-2940. Your Tax Notice will show which taxing authority is responsible for storm water runoff, however, it is a team effort.

Thank you,

East Beach Water Control District
